April 2024 Recap

As we close an invigorating month of golf, we’re excited to bring you the latest updates and developments from the fairways (and shaggy rough for most of us). April has tested our skills and patience with challenging weather and course conditions, but our league has grown and thrived, now boasting 19 enthusiastic members.

Standout Performances

This month, Dustin Armstrong has notably distinguished himself, achieving the lowest handicap among us. Dustin’s exceptional performance is a testament to his skill and dedication on the course, even amidst less-than-ideal conditions.

Taking the spotlight as well, Ryan Storch ended April in stellar form by securing the most points in the league. Ryan’s success is not new to any of us, considering he was last year’s champion. His continued dominance is both an inspiration and a challenge for all members aiming for the top spot.

Challenging Course Conditions

April’s weather brought us plenty of rain, leading to wet grounds and often tricky playing conditions. Additionally, the cart path only rule was in effect more often than not, adding an extra layer of difficulty to our games. While these conditions were a source of frustration at times, they also brought out some of the best golf strategies and adaptabilities within our group.

New Digital Home

On a brighter note, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new website: www.thewoodstour.com. This platform will serve as the central hub for all things related to The Woods, including updates, schedules, member standings, and much more. We encourage everyone to visit and bookmark the site as it will be an invaluable resource throughout the season.

Looking Ahead

As we move into May, we anticipate more engaging rounds and friendlier skies. The coming month promises not only better playing conditions but also more opportunities for our members to challenge each other and improve their game.

Let’s keep the spirits high and the scores low. See you on the course!

2024 Season Kick-off

The Woods Tour returns for the 2024 season with the addition of four members bringing the total membership to 19. Ryan Storch looks to be the first Woods member to defend his title if he can demonstrate a repeat of his 2023 performance.

Weather has kept most of the members on sideline but, on March 17th three members were able kick off the season on the first eligible weekend. As Dave Freson worked on his eligibility by adding a round to formally establish a handicap, Tom Kelley and Brian Sowder showed up for a head to head showdown to decide who will take the first points of the season.

Tom and Brian opened hot playing the first two holes in a combined one over par, but the Cresty Corner took revenge resulting in four double bogeys and two triples between the two players. It was an all-out bloodbath as Tom and Brian were being wheeled to the slaughterhouse. The two of them were left scrambling to make up ground. Tom was able to par two of the last four on the front giving him a commanding lead as they moved to the back 9. The back 9 played equally as challenging but Tom was able to hang on, secure the two points, and reign down from atop of the standings after round one.

2023 Season Recap

There was no shortage of drama in the inaugural season of The Woods Tour. Josh Parr kicked off the season taking 1st in what ended up being the weekend with the largest playing field. It took weeks for other players to make up ground. As the Spring came to a close and the warm days of Summer hit Parr's attendance suffered allowing Matt Waits to take the top spot.

Along with the high summer temps came a heated battle between Waits and Ryan Storch. Back to back high single digit scoring weekends led to Storch taking the top spot. As it started to look like a Storch victory was inevitable B.J. Smallwood made a late summer run to put him in contention.

As summer hit it was Storch still in the lead with Waits with Smallwood closely trailing. The weekend of September 17th was primed for drama. With a large field of eight golfers and Storch with a 4.5 pt lead it left a window of opportunity for Smallwood and Waits to capitalize. It was Tom Kelly who came out firing winning the weekend. Storch settled for 2nd, slamming the door on all contenders and leading him to take home The Woods Cup!
